Shoutout to the Shadows
Write one stanza of poetic verse celebrating someone who you think is under appreciated in your life or in society.
To the friends who cheer for things I think are small
Who remind me that I'm doing better than I thought, after all
You make my achievements feel worth celebrating too,
and somehow make me proud of things I never thought I could do.

To those in the boring uniforms,
who hand me my food with a smile
even though they just got yelled at by a customer
even though they just got in trouble with their boss for their long drive-thru times
even though it's the middle of the lunch rush or late at night or in the 15 minutes before their shift ends
even though they are in the process of making 10 other orders
even though they are currently in the process of taking another order
even though they are only making minimum wage
they still found a way
to brighten my day
and cause my hunger to abate.
So,
to those in the boring uniforms,

a quiet place to pause when everything feels overwhelming

The Quiet Architect
She rises before the sun has found the sky,
And builds our world from small, unnoticed things:
A whispered prayer, a gentle lullaby,
The softest hands that heal what sorrow brings.
Her love is the home we carry everywhere we go,
And she asks for no thanks, yet gives us all she knows.

You watch her spit at flickers of TV faces,
a jumble of crestfallen eyes and failing teeth.
She's biding, sliding against the arms,
fingers tracing names around dust settled dreams.
You watch others watch her
through the wrong pairs of glasses,
smell their thoughts like souring fruit.
And though you are only passing through her days,
you know she deserves more.
So you wait by her side, unwavering,
for someone to kiss those creases away.

Olympics
Our Favourite Olympians and Paralympians!
The Olympian I decided to choose is Sarah Nurse. I'm not a huge follower of sports, but I recently learned that she was the first Black female hockey player to win a gold medal in Olympic Ice Hockey. She achieved this feat with Team Canada in 2022. She grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, and when she was 7 years-old, she decided that one day she would play for Team Canada. This is inspiring to me because it really proves that once you set your mind to something, you can achieve it.
